pH meters typically underperform due to probe issues—specifically the glass sensing bulb and reference junction. Follow these best practices to extend electrode life:
PROPER STORAGE
Keep your pH probe hydrated at all times. Dry storage damages sensitivity and clogs the junction. Store in pH probe storage solution or calibration buffer—never tap or DI water. Fill the probe cap with storage solution, tighten to prevent leakage, and store upright.
REGULAR CLEANING
Sample residue—especially organic material—reduces bulb sensitivity and clogs the junction. Soak your electrode regularly in cleaning solution to maintain peak performance.
CONSISTENT CALIBRATION
pH sensing bulbs lose sensitivity over time. Calibrate regularly to maintain accuracy, and always recalibrate after cleaning or extended storage periods.
