Why Test Phosphate Levels?
Phosphate testing is critical for preventing algae growth and maintaining water quality. In aquariums, excess phosphates promote nuisance algae growth that competes with plants and corals—optimal levels are typically below 0.05 mg/L for planted tanks and near zero for reef tanks. In swimming pools, phosphates are nutrients that fuel algae blooms—even with proper chlorine levels, high phosphates (above 100-200 ppb or 0.1-0.2 mg/L) can cause persistent algae problems and cloudy water. The HI713's low range (0-2.5 mg/L) is perfectly suited for these applications where phosphate levels should be minimal.
How to Use:
- Fill cuvette with 10 mL water sample to line
- Add HI713 reagent packet and mix thoroughly
- Wait for color development (2 minutes)
- Insert cuvette into HI713 Checker HC
- Press button to read phosphate concentration in mg/L
- Convert to ppb if desired: ppb = mg/L × 1000
Reagent Availability:
Replacement reagents available separately as HI713-25 (25 tests) and HI713-100 (100 tests). Each reagent packet is pre-measured for consistent, accurate results.
Maintenance & Care:
Clean cuvettes with distilled water after each use. Store in protective case when not in use. Replace battery when low battery indicator appears. Use CAL Check feature periodically to verify meter performance. Keep reagents stored in a cool, dry place.
Note: Reagents sold separately after initial supply is used. For best results, use fresh reagents and follow all testing procedures carefully. Regular CAL Check validation recommended for quality assurance.
